ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US Hussain Haqqani claimed that the visas to certain US officials, which are in question, were issued with the approval of the GHQ.
In his reply to a letter by the Joint Staff Headquarters (JSHQ) over the issuance of visas to certain US officials without security clearance.The letter was referred to Mr Haqqani by the Foreign Ministry.
Moreover, Ambassador Haqqani in his response stated that some of the visas were issued on the recommendations of the Defence attaché and Naval attaché posted in Washington.
He also added that many of the visas issued were for US military officials who had to visit the country for meetings with Pakistani military officials.
He said he was amused at the fact that the list also included the name of US Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen.
Mr Haqqani also claimed that 82 visas were issued to US military personnel during January to December 2010, with the prior approval of Joint Staff Headquarters. He also rejected the demand to revive the previously employed system for visa issuance
