Public Accounts Committee concerned over money given to former British MP

KARACHI: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) showed its concern on Wednesday regarding a large amount of money given to former UK Parliamentarian, George Galloway by the Pakistani High Commission in London.

The Pakistani High Commission in London gave 135,000 pounds to Galloway from the Pakistan Projection Funds.

When this topic came into discussion during a PAC meeting, the additional foreign secretary said that this was a sensitive issue and should not be propagated. At this, member of PAC, Hamid Yar Hiraj responded by saying that those who have caused a loss to the National Treasury should not be pardoned.

However, the additional secretary said that certain Pakistani missions held confidential funds which they used for the purposes of national interest.

Another member of the PAC, Haider Abbas Rizvi said that the Parliament should be taken into confidence on the issue of such special funds.
