WASHINGTON: Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the self-professed mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, will be tried by a military commission at Guantanamo Bay instead of in a US civilian court, a US official told Reuters.
The official said the announcement would be formally made by US Attorney General Eric Holder later on Monday, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
President Barack Obama on March 7 lifted a two-year freeze on new military trials at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, saying the US Congress was hurting national security by blocking his attempts to move some trials into US civilian courts.
