Karachi transporters threaten to go on strike



KARACHI: Karachi transporters on Monday gave the government a one-week ultimatum to increase fares. They threatened that if the increase does not take place, they will go on strike on April 11.

After the increase of prices in petroleum products, the emergency meeting of transporters took place under the chairmanship of Karachi Transport Alliance’s president Arshad Bukhari.


The transporters stated that the government had last increased the fares in June 2010 and since the then the diesel price has increased by Rs.17. They demanded that the government must increase the fares by at least Rs.5.

Transporters have given the government time until April 9 to make its decision.
