Six die in Kabul supermarket blast

KABUL: At least six people were killed in an explosion that rocked a grocery store frequented by foreigners in Kabul, police and eyewitnesses said.

Chief of counter terrorism at the Ministry of Interior, said both Afghans and foreigners were among the dead in Friday’s blast.

He said police were still investigating what caused the blast.

The explosion ignited a fire inside the store and mounds of canned goods and other merchandise were strewn across the floor of the smoke-filled building, making it difficult for police officers to walk inside the building.

A large plume of gray smoke was seen above the store, which is situated in the heavily guarded Wazir Akbar Khan district, an area favoured by foreigners and wealthy Afghans.
