Govt of Pakistan submits details of exploration licenses in Reko Diq case

Islamabad : The Pakistan Govt submitted all the details about the exploration licenses of different companies involved in copper and gold search at Reko Diq in the Supreme Court.

A four member bench headed by the Chief Justice chaired the hearing of the case. Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday said that he was suspicious about the frame of mind of those involved in the agreement.

“Every thing was handed as a gift basket in 1993,” he said.

The Advocate General of Balochistan, Salahuddin Mengal told the court that eight out of 10 exploration companies took back their licenses in 1998, while the first license was issued to the PHP company in 1993 after the approval of the Governor of Balochistan.

The court then asked if the governor had any authority to issue the license.

The Advocate General of Balochistan said that the license of Tethyan Copper Company will end on February 20, 2011.

The hearing of the case is adjourned till 31 January.
