Three Germans and Police Chief killed in Afghan Governor attack


KUNDUZ : A suicide bombing at the governor’s office in Takhar province killed seven people, including three German soldiers and the chief of police for northern Afghanistan General Mohammed Daoud Daoud.

“Seven people were killed and nine wounded,” Faiz Mohammed Tawhidi, spokesman for the Takhar provincial governor, told AFP.

Coalition forces prepare two-pronged blitz to finish off Gaddafi

Egypt opens Gaza border crossing, easing 4-year blockade


RAFAH CROSSING : With Hosni Mubarak regime gone Hundreds of Palestinians headed to this desert border crossing Saturday morning to be the first to enter Egypt under newly eased restrictions for residents of the Gaza Strip.

Egypt announced that it would open the Rafah crossing after the Palestinian factions Fatah and Hamas signed a reconciliation accord in Cairo early this month. The border opening had been offered as an inducement to Hamas to sign the pact.

Pakistan shuts down U.S. ‘intelligence fusion’ cells


Islamabad : In a clear sign of Pakistan’s deepening mistrust of the United States, Islamabad has told the Obama administration to reduce the number of U.S. troops in the country and has moved to close three military intelligence liaison centers, setting back American efforts to eliminate insurgent sanctuaries in largely lawless areas bordering Afghanistan, U.S. officials said.

Bilawal to become Zardari tribe chief


ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has decided not to become chief of the Zardari tribe, passing on the title to his son Bilawal Bhutto Zardari instead.

Presidential Spokesman Mr Babar said that as per tribal custom the president was supposed to become the head of Zardari tribe after the death of his father Hakim Ali Zardari. However, the president refused to become a tribal chieftain.

CIA team inspects Osama compound


ABBOTTABAD: One of Hillary Clinton's main agenda was to get permission from Pakistan for CIA team to access Bin Laden compound, on Friday a CIA team inspected the Osama bin Laden compound in Abbottabad.

Sources said a CIA team, which consisted of three to five members, came in a helicopter and landed in Abbottabad at about 10.30am. They spent more than six hours in the compound and left the city around 5pm.
